Mombasa · Deep Sea Fishing
The Indian Ocean off Kenya’s coast is a well-known game fishing area, and a private charter from Mombasa lets you spend a morning or a full day on the water with a local skipper and crew. The trip suits anglers who want a serious day of fishing as well as families and groups who simply want to try it.
You are collected from your hotel early in the morning and taken to the boat. The skipper chooses where to fish based on the tide, wind and what has been biting, and the crew set up the lines and help throughout. On a half-day trip you are back by midday; on a full-day trip the boat stays out longer and there is a break for lunch. Then you are returned to your hotel.
Depending on the season, catches can include sailfish, kingfish, tuna, barracuda and other reef and open-water fish. Game fish such as billfish are usually released; ask the skipper about keeping fish for the table. Nothing is guaranteed, and the quality of the fishing varies with the season and weather.
The sea can be rough on windy days, so take seasickness tablets if you are prone to it, and bring sun protection, a hat and a light waterproof layer. Tell us your experience level and what you want to catch so we match the boat and the crew.
Collection from your hotel and transfer to the boat, where the crew brief you and set up the tackle.
The skipper takes the boat to the chosen fishing grounds and the crew help you with the lines.
Half-day trips return to shore around midday; full-day trips break for lunch on the boat and continue fishing.
Back to the harbour and the transfer to your hotel.
Usually yes for fish suitable for eating, but billfish such as sailfish and marlin are normally released. Ask your skipper on the day, and tell us in advance if you want the catch cleaned and packed.
No. The crew supply the tackle and guide you, so beginners are welcome. Experienced anglers can tell us what they want to target.
The calmer months, roughly October to March, are generally the most popular. Fishing is possible at other times, but the sea is often rougher. We confirm the outlook for your dates.
